Happy Good Friday and Easter ... Moses

Moses is one of the best known people of The Holy Bible. He played a major role in the Exodus, and later he received The Ten Commandments from God. He is also the author of The Pentateuch; the first five books of the old testament - Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

Moses was botn in Egypt (Exodus 2:1-2), in the region of Goshen and The Nile Delta. He was a Levite (Exodus 2:1), son of Amran and Jocheded (Exodus 6:20), brother of Aaron and Miriam (1 Chronicles).

Even under brutal slavery, the Isralites had grown very numerous and had large families.

"But the decendants of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly, they multiplied and grow exceedingly strong; so that the land was filled with them" Exodus 1:7.
In no time, the Egyptian eventually viewed them as a national security threat. In order to escape the Egyptian King's edict to kill all male Hebrew infants (Exodus 1:15-16), Moses's mother Jochebed and sister Miriam put him ina waterproof basket, and set it to drift in the Nile River.

The basket was found by the Pharash's daughter, who adopted the infant and named him Moses.
Moses was raised in the palace of Pharoh where he was educated in "all wisdom of the Egyptians." When he grown up, he kill a Egyptian who had been abusing a Hebrew slavery (Exodus 2:11-12). When Pharoh learned of the killing, he tried to kill Moses, but Moses fled for his life into the desert of Sinai (Exodus 2:14-15).

There he met Jethro, a priest of Midian. Moses married one of Jethro's daughters, Zipporah (Exodus 2:15-22).
At the time of Exodus, Moses was eighty years old; He had spent 40 years in the palace of Pharaoh, learning how to govern, and 40 years in the Sinai, learning how to live in the Sinai. All in preparation for his third 40 years, which he spent in the Jorney of Wilderness (Number 33:1 - 50).

During the Wilderness Journey, Moses received The Ten Commendment at Mont Sinai, which were placed in The Ark of The Covenant.
The Ten Commendments were written on two tablets of stone. There were actually two sets made (Exodus 34:1) - the first set was smashed by Moses (Exodus 32:19) when he found out that Aaron had allowed the Israelites to worship a calf idol while he was away on Mont Sinai with The Lord (Exodus 32:1-35).

The second set of tables were eventually placed in a what we known today as the Sacred Ark, a wooden chest made specially as a housing and moving of them dignified and convenient.

The Ark may have also served indirectly to better protect the tablets from Moses temper. :-)
